cinnamon apple crisp

an amazing fall sweet treat!

ingredients

directions

the apples...

  • 6 cups (about 5 large granny smith apples) peeled and sliced thin

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1 tbsp flour

  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 2 tbsps unsalted butter

the top crust...

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1/2 cup cold butter, sliced thin

  • 1 large egg, beaten lightly

finishing touches - optional...

  • vanilla ice cream

  • cinnamon sticks for a finished dinner party touch

  1. core, peel and slice your apples, I love to use my Breville processor 

  2. in a bowl combine and toss the sliced apples, sugar, flour, and cinnamon.

  3. transfer the coated apples to a baking dish

  4. in another large bowl combine the top crust ingredients - flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and nutmeg. mix, add the butter and egg mixture. this should look like a broken up cookie texture. 

  5. sprinkle over the apples

  6. bake, uncovered, at 375 degrees for 45 minutes checking at about the 38 minute mark as all ovens vary. 

  7. serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or dollop or whipped cream.
